I’m conflicted on this one. On one hand, I think it’s a fun movie with some great action but on the other, I think it’s a good example of how NOT to adapt a book to film. Granted, the book may not carry the type of narrative that most film audiences are accustomed to but the problem with the movie was that it cut back on some of what made the book so great. That being said, this will be a review of the movie, “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” and not a critique of the quality of the adaptation. You would think that Tim Burton and Johnny Deep teaming up to do a story about vampires love story that spans centuries would be the perfect movie for them. I thought so, too. I was wrong. What started out on paper with promise hit screens with a great big snooze. “Dark Shadows” is based on a TV show that was on the air before I was born. I’d say that people who watched the vampire soap opera might be able to appreciate it more than I did, but judging from those that I’ve talked to, that isn’t the case. It’s a bad sign when you get ten minutes into a movie and think, “oh, man, this is gonna suck.” Unfortunately that’s where I was with “Underworld: Awakening”, the forth in the “Underworld” series but only the third with the beautiful Kate Beckinsale. “Awakening” takes place 12 years after “Evolution”– remember “Rise of the Lycans” was a prequel.
