My name is Timothy English. I am a writer, a filmmaker, a critic, an ad man and a poet. I write movie reviews for Examiner.com and this happy little place, my BONUS FEATURES. When I’m not doing my movie thing, my day job is as a copywriter and content manager for Gragg Advertising.
I am a native of Kansas City, although my life plan has taken me as far as Topeka. Pretty exciting. I graduated from Topeka West High School in 1994 and have since lived in Lawrence and Eudora before returning to KC in 2002.
In 2002, I wrote, directed and starred in a short film called “Run!”. It was a sci-fi noir flick about aliens. I’ve also served as producer on a couple of small, independent, locally produced films and made even rarer appearances in a few films, just glorified cameos really. Nothing special.
I studied education and social work at Johnson County Community College and I spent four years as a teacher, running an early childhood education center in Overland Park, KS.
In 2014, I graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City where I studied advertising, journalism, and film. While at UMKC, I co-founded PoPFilmKC (Paris of the Plains Group of Kansas City), a group dedicated to helping student and independent filmmakers in Kansas City.
This led to the founding of the TERROR ON THE PLAINS HORROR FILM FESTIVAL, which I ran for 3 years before turning it over to the Independent Filmmakers Coalition of Kansas City.
I’ve been a voting member of the Kansas City Film Critics Circle since 2013 and the Broadcast Film Critics Association since 2014. I have served as the host for two podcasts, THE TIME AND LO SHOW in 2014 and currently, TIM AND THE REEL HOOLIGANS.
You may have seen me as a guest critic on KC Live, or the KSHB Midday show, airing on KSHB-41 in Kansas City.
