This is mostly review. I started this project late at night on JUNE 1st. I should have known it was going to be painful when the first flick I watched was total crap. Here is a recap of the first 10 movies on my 100 Movies I’ve Never Seen Before challenge.
1. The Last House on the Left- 2009: What a terrible movie. Awful characters spewing even worse dialogue. It’s grizzly and mean and has several WTF moments but it sucks, real bad. 3/10
2. Bangkok Dangerous- 2008: If anyone sees the Nicolas Cage who used to read his scripts then turn in memorable performances in really good films, call the police. This movie just isn’t a Nic Cage movie. It sucks and he sucks in it. 2/10
3. Surrogates- 2009: Another sci -i mess. It’s fine as a Bruce Willis movie but there is nothing new or original here that we haven’t seen in The Matrix or iRobot or any other similar sci-fi flick. 6/10
4. Pandorum- 2009: This one, while still lacking in originality gets a lot of points for creating a truly claustrophobic tension that builds through out the entire movie. 7/10
5. Whatever Works- 2009: It’s exactly what you’d expect from a Woody Allen movie starring Larry David- and not in a good way. Never been a Woody fan, this didn’t help. 5/10
6. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs- 2009: Animated and silly. A good one for the kids but only slightly above the average line for these types of movies. There are sooooo many animated movies these days and only a hand full that truly stand out. This isn’t one, but it entertains for 90 or so minutes…and it has Mr. T!! 7/10
7. The Men Who Stare at Goats- 2009: Sometimes George Clooney is at his best when he doesn’t take himself seriously AT ALL. Here you have him trying to convince Ewan McGregor is part of an elite group of Jedi spies. Funny but prob not for everyone. It gets pretty goofy. 7/10
8. Obsessed- 2009: Am I the only one that has noticed that Ali Larter can’t act and Beyonce shouldn’t? This is exhibit A as to why both of them should stick to what they do best: Beyonce should sing and Ali should….well, I’m sure she does something well. 5/10
9. Daybreakers- 2009: Vampires, when done right can be pretty cool. It’s good to remember that. This one keeps ’em fairly scary and has an interesting story but it still stars Ethan Hawke. Not sure if that’s as cool as he thinks he is. 7/10
10. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus- 2009: A mind bending flick that never truly lets you figure out what is going on. Heath Ledger’s last movie. It’s trippy and confusing but still beautiful. Also stars Andrew Garfield (Social Network, Spider-Man reboot). 7/10
